For more than 20 years prior, the Penang Welfare Association for The Mentally Retarded Children had been applying for land for a new school for differently abled children. With the assistance from the State Government and multiple generous parties, we saw that dreams come true in the form of a 2- storey, 20 rooms building complete with a multi-purpose hall, playground, utilities and basic amenities.
2018 saw the ground-breaking ceremony of this new school, whilst January 2020 saw its ribbon-cutting and official handover of the building.
This building, which will house Suria Care Centre, has the capacity to provide for up to 180 children who are differently abled. The mission of the centre is to provide equal opportunities in education for these children – to help them realise their aspirations and to achieve their fullest potential.
Since the completion of the building, the Association has been working hard in raising funds to equip the Suria Care Centre with various facilities in order to provide these children with holistic learning. The facilities include a music room, occupational therapy room, Snoezelen room, computer lab and baking station. Through the support of various kind-hearted contributors, the Association has raised RM500,000 so far versus a target of RM 2M to fund its setup, equipped the rooms, and cover operational costs for the next 15 to 18 months.
The Care Centre is also looking to include hydroponic farming, soap making , baking and clothes laundering in their curricular especially for those more than 18 years old.
As part of The Kiwanis Club of Penang Central’s contribution to the society, we are helping the Association to raise this remaining sum. We are reaching out to appeal for your help. Your contribution, big or small, would make an impact in the life of these children in our society.
Donation can be made payable to Kelab Kiwanis Pulau Pinang Sentral via our CIMB A/C #800 9543 835. Kindly indicate your full name and provide your email address for an official receipt to be sent for your record. Do put the project name as Pusat Jagaan Suria for project identification purposes.
The school is our dream of providing these children with equal opportunity in learning.
Together, let’s make this happen for the special needs’ community!
